Brawler Bash: Game 3

With a win in the last game, I was paired up against a stronger looking army. When I brought my army to the table, my opponent said, "Cool Executioners!" and asked me if I had a Thulsa Kane model. That alone really made my day, as I've never had anyone recognize the Executioners before. Not enough people have read the Badab War books.

Even though he was a very enthusiastic (and well-read) Space Marine player, my opponent was taking a break from power armor and using Daemons with Chaos Marine allies.

The game was Big Guns Never Tire (5 objectives) with Hammer and Anvil deployment. Usually, this would be good for my army, as it favors my shooting and 3 heavy support choices. However, with three assault-oriented flying monstrous creatures and a Heldrake, I knew it would be a tough game.

The fastest daemons deploy right on the line, while Cultists and Plaguebearers deploy on the objectives.

This game was pretty straightforward, so I'll just let the pictures tell the story.

The flyers close to assault range while my marines ineffectually try to shoot them down.
Bloodletters, Obliterators, and a Heldrake arrive to bolster the assault.
The Daemon vanguard charges, quickly wiping out my left flank.
Amra charges into the Bloodletters while my right flank, tries to wipe out the Screamers. The Stormtalon fails to do any damage to the Heldrake.
The Daemon Princes finish of their targets, though the Tactical squad manages to keep the Bloodthirster tied up.
Amra takes on the Bloodletters, losing 3 wounds but wiping them out.
The Daemon Princes charge my remaining squads while the Bloodthirster finishes off the Tactical squad.
The Daemon Prince slaughters my Techmarine after laying waste to my squads.
As my last remaining model, Amra roars his challenge to the Daemons, and the Daemon Princes swoop in to silence the mortal.
Over two rounds of combat, Amra kills both Daemon Princes. He really got to go on a rampage this game.
After taking out the Daemon princes, Amra takes on more than he can handle and is killed by the Bloodthirster.

That was the game. When it comes down to it, my army was completely unable to handle so many flying monstrous creatures. My opponent played a fun game though, particularly at the end. He didn't have to engage Amra with the Daemon Princes; they had the speed to just leave him alone until the battle ended. It was great to see what he could do against some very tough opposition.

Lessons Learned

Pretty much what I already knew: I need more units that can deal with flyers. I also could use another counter-assault unit. In many games, Amra can hold off enemy assault units that make it to my lines. However, he can only be in one place at a time and I needed to deal with 5 nasty assault units.
