Executioners Predator "Proclamation of Crom"

Proclamation of Crom is a relatively new Predator within the armories of the Executioners. It was given to them during the early stages of the the Badab War, a gift from the Astral Claws in acknowledgement of the significant forces the Executioners committed to the Secessionist cause. Originally named Dauntless Hunter in honor of Lugft Huron, the vehicle serves with distinction throughout the Badab War, particularly at the defeat of the Howling Griffons at the Khymara system.

The Red Hour changed the role of the Executioners during the Badab War and profoundly altered their relationship with the Tyrant of Badab. The Predator could no longer be named in honor of such a dishonorable traitor, and its crew decided to rename the vehicle Proclamation of Crom. This refers to a story told by the chaplains to each neophyte within the chapter, considered to be the heart of the Executioners' beliefs.

The first High Executioner was an Aquilonian named Connaldar Crom. As he forged his legend as the founding Chapter Master of the Executioners, he fought against all manner of traitors and xenos and alongside many great Imperial warriors. On one occasion, he led a force consisting of the 3rd and 4th Companies, as well as elements of the 1st and 8th Companies, against a system wide rebellion orchestrated by the Alpha Legion. The newly created Executioners fought alongside two Companies of the White Scars, and submitted themselves to the command of the leader of the White Scars force. They learned much of the ways of mobile warfare from their elder cousins. When the rebellion was finally put down, the White Scars held a massive victory feast and invited their sombre cousins to join them.

During the feast, the Captain of the Scars addressed the assembled marines: "We are victorious here, and the traitor Alpha Legion hide from our wrath. This is good, but what is best in life?"

Many of the sons of Chogoris answered the feel of the heavy bikes on the open steppe of their homeworld, others the satisfaction of hunting and slaying a particularly cunning and powerful beast. The more devout of the number shouted that it was to do the Emperor's will and protect the Imperium. As the answers died down, the White Scars Captain realized that none of the Executioners had spoken.

"High Executioner Crom," he called across the room, "What is best in your life?" Crom looked up from the roast haunch of meat he was silently devouring and spoke his answer.

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their people." The White Scars erupted in laughter at his brusque response, but no Executioner shared in their mirth. The answer was true and they saw no humor in it.

The three parts of Crom's legendary answer are written on scrolls adorning the Proclamation of Crom as oath to the Chapter. Over its years of service since the Red Hour, the Predator has fulfilled its oath many times and has inspired its brothers on the field to do the same.

Let me know what you think, both of the model and of the background. Only two models left for my 1,850 point army: a Land Speeder and a Thunderfire Cannon. I'm really looking forward to putting the painted army on the table for the first time.
