1,000 Point List

I think this is a good point to present a sample list. I'm going to start with a 1,000 point list that I've been using a lot lately, as small lists are easier to explain.

Reclusiarch w/ jump pack, infernus pistol

Sanguinary Priest w/ jump pack, power weapon

10 Assault Marines w/ power fist, 2 meltaguns

5 Assault Marines w/ power fist, infernus pistol, meltagun

5 Assault Terminators w/ thunder hammers, storm shields

5 Devastators w/ 4 missile launchers

This comes to 1,000 points exactly. It's a very flexible list that can handle any enemy or conditions I've thrown it at so far, though it has some issues holding multiple objectives. The Reclusiarch and Priest join the same squad, giving you a fairly dangerous, fast hammer unit. If the enemy is a real close-combat threat, they join the large Assault squad, which doesn't combat squad. If the enemy has a lot of tanks that need to be destroyed, the large Assault squad can combat squad. The half with the Sergeant joins the Reclusiarch and Priest, while the other half is a reliable tank hunter. The small Assault squad can hunt tanks or weaker enemy infantry.

The Devastators main role is destroying transports. They'll deploy in cover and maintain fire as long as they can. If I go second, I'll often deploy them out of sight, so they can move into a good firing position in the first turn. This allows them open fire on the second turn and only endure one round of shooting before the rest our your army starts to show up.

The Assault Terminators are the answer to any enemy units that you don't want to engage in assault. They also are helpful if you're dealing with lots of low AP shooting. They'll shrug off shots from all the missile launchers that seem to be on the table nowadays, and the storm shields allow them to stand up to AP2 if they have to. The trick with them is to drop them aggressively. They're slow, and they don't arrive as reliably early as your other units.
